CHARLESTON (JG-TC) -- Students at Jefferson Elementary School in Charleston recently raised more than $1,500 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The students took part in a "Laps for Life" fundraiser by getting pledges and completing laps in the school's gym, track or playground.
Omega Nu, the local chaper of the Epsilor Sigma Alpha service organization, promoted the fundraiser with the Jefferson student council helped organize.
The effort raised money for a good cause and taught the students the importance of helping others, said school counselor Tracy Valinevicius, one of the student council's sponsors.
The fundraiser took place during the school's PE classes during the week of Nov. 27-Dec. 1.
