Duplicate bridge results announced

CHARLESTON -- The results of the duplicate bridge game played on Jan. 29 are:

The next game will be on Monday at 6:45 p.m. at First Christian Church in Charleston.

Pet-related programs scheduled at library

EFFINGHAM -- Two programs for pet owners will be held at the Suzette Brumleve Memorial Effingham Public Library during the month of February.

"First Aid for Your Pet" will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Workman Room at the library. The vets of St. Francis Animal Hospital of Effingham County will lead a discussion of common household pet crises and how to handle them. A question-and-answer session will follow.

"Pet Behavior" will be held at 6 p.m. Feb. 20. Questions will include: Why does my dog like my husband better than me? Why do my cats hate each other? Why is my dog so neurotic about the doorbell? The answers to these questions and more will be supplied by the vets of St. Francis Animal Hospital of Effingham County.

Findlay Legion Auxiliary to host blood drive

FINDLAY -- The Findlay American Legion Auxiliary will host an American Red Cross Blood Drive from 2-6 p.m. Wednesday at the Findlay American Legion Post Home.

There is a constant need for blood of all types. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call Chris Tippit at 217-823-9237.

Life Center to hold soup supper

TOLEDO -- Life Center of Cumberland County will be holding a soup supper from 4-7 p.m. Thursday.

The Life Center in Toledo is a not-for-profit agency that serves the seniors of Clark and Cumberland County. Donations will be accepted.

The menu will include chili, taco and oyster soups, cheesy potato soup, ham/cheese salad, sandwiches, dessert.

Vendors will be on hand: Snap Jewelry, Usborne Books, Signature Homestyles, Carla’s Crafts, Pink Zebra, MojiLife, Lularoe, Norwex, Tastefully Simple, What’s the Thyme, and Colin Cole Woodturning.

'Men Who Cook' set to aid Children's Advocacy Center

CHARLESTON -- Registration is currently open for "Men Who Cook", a potluck event featuring local men preparing bite-sized samples of their favorite dish to be held Feb. 24 at the Lifespan Center, 11021 East County Road. Tasting will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. that night, with awards to follow.

Attendees will have the opportunity to sample the dishes prepared by the chefs and vote for their favorites. Trophies will be awarded to the top three chefs in each category and the Grand Master Chef will also be named.

Beverages including soft drinks, wine, and beer will be provided. Additional evening fun includes: door prizes, 50/50 raffle, processed hog raffle, and auction items.

This event aims to raise awareness for the Children’s Advocacy Center of East Central Illinois, a not-for-profit agency serving children who are victims of sexual and/or severe physical abuse. There is no charge for this event, however, donations are collected and appreciated.
