Martinsville to hold preschool round up

MARTINSVILLE -- Each year the Martinsville school district and Project H.E.L.P. offer parents the opportunity to discover how their child is developing in the areas of speech, language, concepts and motor skills. Vision and hearing screenings are also provided, free of charge.

This year's screenings for birth-5 years of age, along with kindergarten pre-registration, will be Feb. 7 and 8 at Martinsville Bible Church, 509 Ridgelawn Road.

Signed parent/guardian permission is required and kindergarten-bound children will need a copy of their birth certificate, social security number, immunization records, lead screening and emergency contact numbers. Dental and vision exams will be accepted if available.

Tickets available for Daddy-Daughter Dance

PARIS -- The Altar Society of St Mary’s Catholic Church in Paris is planning its second annual Daddy-Daughter Dance for the entire community. Daddy and his daughter(s) will enjoy a fun-filled evening of dancing beginning at 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10, at 528 N Main in Paris at the Parish Hall.

This event features dancing, DJ music, snacks, drinks and a free photo. Tickets are available at the door the night of the event and will sell for $15 per couple and $5 for each additional child.

EIU's Oratorio Society seeks singers for spring concert

CHARLESTON -- Eastern Illinois University's Oratorio Society will join with the EIU Choral Ensembles in the spring for the OVATIONS Series: Mozart Requiem Concert on April 22.

OVATIONS: Mozart Requiem will be held at 4 p.m. April 22. Rehearsals will begin Feb. 14, maybe earlier due to the length of the piece, and will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesdays in the choral/Jazz Rehearsal room 1360 in Doudna Fine Arts Center. Spring dress rehearsals are Monday, Wednesday and Friday, April 16, 18 and 20, from 7-10 p.m.

Tickets available for 32nd annual Chocolate Festival

GALESBURG -- The Galesburg Historical Society plans its Chocolate Festival from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Feb. 17 and 18 at the Prairie Players Theater, 160 S. Seminary.

The festival features an all-you-can-eat buffet of chocolate items such as chocolate coffee,chocolate chili chocolate bacon and a chocolate fountain. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door.
