Book Love Donation Event to be held at at the Effingham Public Library

EFFINGHAM -- The Effingham Public Library is asking book lovers to share their love of reading and books by donating gently used books to the library on Valentine’s Day. Book donations are urgently needed for the Effingham Public Library’s Book Box located in the Effingham County Office Building. After sharing more than 5000 books with the community in its first year, the Book Box vending machine is running low on books to restock it, especially books for children.

Created to increase opportunities to build literacy in the Effingham area, the Book Box is part of Effingham Public Library’s strategic plan to reach underserved populations. The vending machine was purchased and repurposed thanks to a grant from Better World Books. Maintained by the staff and volunteers at the Effingham Public Library, the Book Box dispenses a curated selection of donated books, completely free of charge.

The library is also looking for volunteers to help wrap books for the Book Box. The volunteer application is located on the library’s website. Interested volunteers can also send an email to Peggy Heal, Operations Coordinator, at for more information about volunteer opportunities at the library.

For further information go to the Library’s website at or call the library at 217-342-2464 x1, email
