Gospel choir concert planned

TOLEDO -- On Sunday evening at 6 p.m., Southern Illinois’ Homecoming Gospel Choir will be appearing in concert at the Toledo Christian Church.

Enjoy an unforgettable evening of musical worship and praise featuring southern Illinois's 80-voice Homecoming Gospel Choir under the direction of John and Judy Roberts singing your favorite southern gospel songs and hymns in the Gaither style.

Everyone is cordially invited to attend this memorable evening of southern gospel music. Plenty of good seating and convenient parking will be available for those attending the concert. Admission to the concert is free, and a free will offering will be received.

Benefit for Les Todd to be held

MATTOON -- A benefit for Les Todd will be held from 2-7 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church in Mattoon.

There will be a Quarter Auction at 2 p.m., a soup and sandwich meal, with dessert and drink after the auction; Chinese Raffle; 50/50 raffle; entertainment and more until 7 p.m.

Todd was diagnosed with colon cancer and was in remission until June of this year, when he and his family found out the cancer was back. He had major surgery in July. He is going through six months of chemotherapy to hopefully clear the rest of the cancer in his lymph nodes. The family also has a special needs adult in the household to take care of.

Operation Christmas Child Shoebox dedication set

SULLIVAN -- A community worship service for those walking through a season of grief will be held from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Sunday at Vineyard Church in Sullivan. Childcare is provided by pre-registration only.

Powerful Interactions Workshop to be held

CHARLESTON -- A "Powerful Interactions" workshop will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Wesley United Methodist Church at 2206 4th St.

This workshop is available for child care providers and families on using the power of our presence to connect, extend learning, and prevent behavior problems. Sponsored by the Spirit of Illinois Association for the Education of Young Children, the cost for members is $5, for non-members, $10.
