It is very windy but warm, sort of sunny at times. Before lunch it actually looked like it might rain. I almost hoped it would. I just felt like I needed a rainy day. What? Am I nuts? After all the rainy days we had and I want a rainy day? Yes, definitely I've got something askew!
We have actually had several dry days and I am really thankful for that. It's the first of June and still planting is being done. It may be just beans now, I don't know. But the saying is knee high by Fourth of July. For the last few years the corn was at the point of earring out by them. But this year, one has to wonder.
My mom planted some more things in her garden. I tilled some for her. It really wasn't ideally dry but I didn't till very deep.
I had a very full day. It didn't start out too great. It felt like I was slogging through molasses. Have you ever had that kind of feeling, like you just can't get anywhere?
My glasses broke on Sunday morning. I had an old pair I could make do with but they made me feel kind of cross-eyed. Maybe more cross than eyed!
I called for an appointment. They could get me in at 3 p.m. I had a lot of things to get done in a hurry.
I got the laundry done, everything folded and put away, tilled Mom's garden so she could plant.
Luckily sis Louise was free to take us. I hadn't realized but it was seven years since my last eye exam. Now it appears I have glaucoma and I have to do another test. I do that Friday.
After we came home I spread some stuff on the garden that is supposed to soften up the soil and make it more mellow. Sure hope it works! I took the buckets off the tomato plants. They actually look very nice. I put up the cages and composted them. I also planted and watered my flowers. My one lily plant that I have had for several years didn't come up. I am sorry for that. It had the most wonderful scent. I also don't have any pink roses. Those also smelled so good.
I had a pretty full and long day. Now today, I can't seem to get anything done. My writing is taking so long. My feet hurt and the wind blows and blows! At least it isn't cold.
This past Friday was my turn to take a meal into the neighbors, Arik and Treva Otto. They have a tiny baby. The church women are taking turns. I fixed a casserole and dessert. I believe I was trying to see if I could use every dish in my cabinets.
I had cleaned part of the house before lunch (bathrooms). I was going to finish after I washed the dishes. Well, it was time to take the meal to Arik's. I looked at my stack of dirty dishes, told them to stay put, I'll be back. And you know what? They obeyed! They were still there when I returned which wasn't real soon. I sat and visited with Treva and could have a lot longer. She is such a delightful person!
Anyway, I did return and put our casserole in the oven. it needed to bake two hours. Then I tackled the mound of dishes. I was almost done when I heard a mower.
Uh oh, Rachel is mowing the yard. My mowing spirit clamored for release. OK, I have 30 minutes until supper is ready. I gave hubby instructions on setting the table and getting supper ready and call me when it is. I went out to mow until I was done. And no, the dishes didn't get washed and the house didn't get finished. I love mowing! And the grass looks so nice. Well except for a few streaks.

Last Thursday (Ascension Day) grandson Robert and Marilyn and little Zackery brought supper for us. What a treat and it was so good! Zackrey is such a cute little guy, so full of smiles. He can sit by himself now. It was a very special evening!

Rhubarb Coffee Cake
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup butter
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup flour
1/2 cup buttermilk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
3/4 cup diced rhubarb
1/2 cup white sugar mixed with 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
Cream butter and sugar. Add egg and mix well. Add dry ingredients along with buttermilk and vanilla. Stir in rhubarb. Pour into a 9-by-9-inch square pan. Sprinkle cinnamon and sugar on top. Bake at 350 degrees F. for 25 to 30 minutes or until done. For a more tart coffee cake use less sugar on top.
Good when served hot with milk and a sandwich.
