Gover was appointed at a recent league board of directors meeting, which was held remotely due to the stay-at-home requirement prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The nominations committee is tentatively scheduled to meet in June to nominate officers and directors for the more than 1,200 member organization.

Gover, who has been mayor of Mattoon since 2010, has been a director of the league since 2013.

The league is a statewide lobbying and educational organization representing Illinois municipalities in Springfield.
