This cat and dog are available for adoption at the County Animal Rescue and Education Center. The cat is "Charlie," a 4-year-old black-and-white neutered male. He is microchipped, housebroken and good with kids. The dog is "Jax," 2-year-old neutered male pit bull/lab mix. He is already microchipped.

The CARE center is in need of donated used or new dog houses. The dog houses can be brought to the CARE center, or the center will pick up the dog houses if necessary. For pick-up, call 345-4112 or 345-4114.

The CARE center, located on the Loxa Road, one mile south of Illinois Route 16, is open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.

The fee to adopt a dog or cat is $41 from the CARE center. Cats that are 5 years old and older are $21 each. There is a $6 fee for microchipping, which is included in the price to adopt a pet. All dogs and cats leaving the shelter are required to be microchipped. All cats must now be registered within 30 days of adoption.
