CHARLESTON -- A federal appeals court has affirmed the dismissal of a lawsuit filed by a group opposing a Coles County reassessment project.

Members of the Concerned Tax Payers of Coles County sued the county in federal court to seeking a halt to the project.

A judge dismissed the case in December, mostly citing jurisdictional issues. The district federal court judge said federal courts shouldn't address an issue that can be settled in state court.

The Concerned Tax Payers group more recently filed a lawsuit in Coles County court. That case is pending with no hearings yet scheduled.

The dispute is based on the project that's reassessing all of the commercial and industrial property in the county.
