CHARLESTON -- The east side of the Panther Paw Bar and Grill building, located at 1412 Fourth St., will be a Mexican restaurant soon.
Casa Del Mar is expected to open and fill the east section of the building, an area that was once a focal point for dancing in the Paw.
Construction work has been underway to transform the space into a more themed and colorful look often seen in Mexican restaurants. The bar that stands on the far east side of the building was retained, though. The space will include more seating as well.
Miguel Rebollo, Casa Del Mar owner, said the plan is to open within two weeks or so. This is Rebollo's first try at getting a Mexican-style restaurant in Charleston, but it is not his first overall. Rebollo heads numerous other restaurants in the area including in Arthur, Urbana and Mattoon (with El Vaquero and Taco Amigos).
The west side of the building will continue to run as the Panther Paw bar. The two spaces will remain separate entities, Rebollo said.
