MATTOON (JG-TC) -- Police officers arrested a man on a stolen vehicle charge Saturday morning after a chase that ended when his car crashed.

A Mattoon Police Department press release reported that Nicholas I. Pinkerton, 36, currently homeless and formerly of Sturgis, Ky., was arrested at 6:01 a.m. Saturday in rural Coles County on charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle and fleeing from police.

The charges allege that Pinkerton stole a car in Neoga and then drove through Mattoon, where police officers attempted to stop him. A vehicle chase ensued, and Pinkerton was apprehended after crashing this car in rural Coles County. Pinkerton was taken to the Coles County jail.

In other matters, Samantha N. Pearson, 32, of Mattoon was arrested at 7:49 p.m. Saturday in the 2100 block of Charleston Avenue on a charge of possession of methamphetamine. The charge alleges that she was found to be in possession of this drug during a traffic stop. Pearson was taken to the jail.

Separately, Sean K. Beck, 39, of Humboldt was arrested at 11:22 p.m. Sunday in the 500 block of South 21st Street on charges of driving while license revoked and possession of methamphetamine. Beck was taken to the jail.
