Charleston police reported that Jada J. Abernathy, 29, of Paris was arrested after a traffic stop at 9:16 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of 20th Street and Kimberly Drive.

Abernathy was in the front passenger seat of the vehicle that was stopped. During the traffic stop, a Charleston police K-9 dog alerted on the vehicle, which resulted in a search of the vehicle, police stated.

The search yielded evidence of meth, cannabis and drug paraphernalia. Police also report that Abernathy allegedly obstructed justice by providing the officer with a false name.

Abernathy was arrested for meth, cannabis and drug paraphernalia possession and obstructing justice.

In a separate incident, Amy L. Evans, 43, of Ashmore was arrested for meth possession after officers responded to a disabled vehicle at 7:34 a.m. Wednesday to the 1600 block of Lincoln Ave, police stated.

When police were handling the call, Evans was arrested. According to police, the officer at the scene saw evidence of drug paraphernalia in "plain view" inside the vehicle.
