The release said deputies discovered that the residence, located south of Charleston, was entered by forcing open the back door and then property was taken from inside. Cowger was arrested after he was located later, hiding in a garage in Mattoon, according to the release. It said Mattoon police assisted the sheriff's office in the arrest.

Cowger has been charged with residential burglary and possession of methamphetamine in connection with the incident, Coles County court records indicate. The news release said he was also wanted on a burglary warrant from Shelby County.
