CHARLESTON (JG-TC) -- A Charleston man was recently arrested for allegedly violating sex offender registration requirements in two counties.

Anthony B. McFarland, 56, was arrested with the help of the U.S. Marshal Sex Offender Apprehension Unit and the Champaign County Sheriff's Office, according to a news release from the Coles County Sheriff's Office.

McFarland is charged with failure to register as a sex offender in both counties, according to records. In each county, he's accused of failing to notify police of a change of address as required during January, the records show.

McFarland is required to register as a sex offender because of a 2000 Coles County sexual assault conviction for which he served a prison sentence. Records also show he had an address on record in Urbana in Champaign County at one time.
