MATTOON (JG-TC) -- Police officers arrested recently arrested an Altamont man for damaging the Mattoon train depot.

A Mattoon Police Department press release reported that Anthony J. Arnone, 36, was arrested on the charges of criminal damage to state supported property and disorderly conduct at 10:06 a.m. Friday in the 1600 block of Charleston Avenue.

The charges allege that Arnone entered the depot, 1718 Broadway Ave., on Friday and caused damage there by flooding the bathroom, which alarmed and disturbed the maintenance crew that had to fix the issue. Arnone was taken to the Coles County jail.

In other matters, Seth L. McCall, 27, of Mattoon was arrested on charges of obstructing and resisting a police officer, and of possession of a controlled substance at 7:53 p.m. Friday in the 600 block of Edgar Avenue.

The charges allege police had responded to that location looking for McCall due to him having an active warrant for his arrest. The charges allege that upon officers arriving and locating McCall, he resisted their efforts in taking him into custody. Once McCall was secured by police, a search of his clothing revealed him to be in possession of a controlled substance. McCall was taken to the jail.

Separately, Amanda M. Mitchell, 35, of Mattoon was arrested on charges of criminal trespass and felony criminal damage to property at 5:05 p.m. Saturday at the police station. The charges allege that on Dec. 31 Mitchell trespassed upon property of a past landlord, where she had not resided since 2015, and damaged multiple items totaling over $500 there. Mitchell was taken to the jail.

In another matter, Billy G. Tipsword, 56, of Mattoon was arrested on a charge of possession of methamphetamine at 11:03 a.m. Sunday in the 1300 block of Dewitt Avenue. The charge alleges that Tipsword was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped by police and that he was found to be in possession of methamphetamine.

Separately, Brittany Y. Williams, 28, of Chicago was arrested on charges of criminal trespass and criminal damage to property at 1:33 a.m. Monday in the 1800 block of South Ninth Street. The charges allege that Williams trespassed upon property of Sunrise Apartments in Mattoon after having previously been banned from there, and caused damage to an apartment and items inside while there. She was taken to the jail.
