MATTOON — Two Mattoon residents were arrested on cocaine and heroin-related charges after the East Central Illinois Task Force executed a search warrant Thursday afternoon with the help of the Mattoon Police Department and Coles County Crisis Response Team.

A Mattoon Police Department press release reported that the search warrant was carried out at approximately 2:50 p.m. in the 1400 block of Marshall Avenue. The search reportedly resulted in the seizure of more than 26 grams of heroin and 20 grams of cocaine individually packaged for sale, along with more than $1,800 in cash.

The search warrant also led to the arrest of a 46-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman, who were inside the residence at the time.

Both were arrested on preliminary charges of possession with intent to deliver cocaine and heroin, and of obstruction of justice. They were allegedly in possession of the illegal drugs and attempting to destroy the evidence.

They were taken to the Coles County jail. Preliminary charges are subject to review by the Coles County state's attorney's office.
