MATTOON — Police officers recently arrested two men on preliminary charges of domestic battery in separate cases.

The Mattoon Police Department reported the first arrest involved a 47-year-old Tuscola man and took place at 3:56 p.m. Thursday along Brown Court. The man allegedly spat in a female's face, grabbed her around the throat, and pulled her by the hair during a domestic disturbance.

Regarding the second arrest, a 27-year-old Mattoon man was taken into custody at 12:17 a.m. Tuesday in the 3000 block of Cedar Avenue in Mattoon. The man allegedly pushed and struck a female during a domestic disturbance on Sunday at this location.

Both men were taken to the Coles County jail.
