MATTOON (JG-TC) -- Police officers arrested three men on Thursday for allegedly attempting to use counterfeit money in Mattoon.

A Mattoon Police Department press release reported that Nyere J. Almore Jr., 27; Jamont M. Jackson, 26; and Demetrius C. Mattox, 27, all of Chicago, were each arrested on a charge of forgery just upon their exiting Walgreens, 212 S. Logan St.

The charges against the three men allege that they traveled from Chicago to Mattoon for the purpose of using counterfeit money at various business locales. They were allegedly attempting to purchase goods and receive real currency as change in exchange for the counterfeit money. All three were taken to the Coles County jail.
