MATTOON (JG-TC) -- Police officers made arrests in two separate domestic battery cases last week.

A Mattoon Police Department press release reported that Andre M. Griffin, 31, of Mattoon was arrested on a charge of aggravated domestic battery. The arrest occurred at 3:39 p.m. Saturday in the 500 block of North 23rd Street. The charge alleges that Griffin struck, choked, and spat on a woman while he was arguing with her. Griffin was taken to the Coles County jail.

Patrick M. Morris, 19, of Mattoon was arrested on a charge of domestic battery. The arrest occurred at 11:11 p.m. Thursday at the police station. The charge alleges that Morris struck a woman numerous times on Feb. 13 while he was arguing with her. Morris was taken to the jail.

In other matters, Brice M. Stanford, 21, of Charleston was arrested on a charge of criminal damage to property at 12:18 p.m. Thursday at the police station. The charge alleges that while Stanford was arguing over property with a man, Stanford kicked and damaged a door at the place where the man was staying. Stanford was issued a court date and was released.

Separately, Dustin R. Drum, 28, of Charleston was arrested on a charge of retail theft. The arrest occurred at 3:59 p.m. Thursday in the 1200 block of Charleston Avenue. The charge alleges that Drum stole property from the Discount Tobacco store. Drum was taken to the police station, where he was issued a court date and was released.

In another case, Anthony L. Howard, 34, of Mattoon was arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct. The arrest occurred at 9:43 p.m. Saturday in the 1800 block of Olive Avenue. The charge alleges that  Howard acted in a way that caused a breach of the peace at The Castle bar, and alarmed and disturbed another person there. Howard was taken to the police station, where he was issued a court date and was released.
