MATTOON — Police officers arrested three St. Louis men early Saturday in Arcola on preliminary charges they burglarized the Verizon Wireless store located along Dettro Drive in Mattoon that morning.

A Mattoon Police Department press release reported that three men ages 42, 38 and 37 were arrested on preliminary charges of burglary, possession of burglary tools, and criminal damage to property. The arrest of all three occurred with the help of the Arcola Police Department at 4:02 a.m. Saturday in the 200 block of South Pine Street in Arcola.

Preliminary charges are subject to review by the state's attorney's office.

According to police, the men allegedly forced entry into the Verizon Wireless store at approximately 2:30 a.m. Saturday. Once they were inside the store, they allegedly grabbed merchandise from the shelves and then left town.

The three men and their vehicle was subsequently spotted by the Arcola Police Department and stopped, at which time all three were taken into custody. They were all three brought back to the Mattoon police station for interviews and were later taken to the Coles County jail.
