MATTOON -- The Lake Land College Board of Trustees voted Monday to appoint Tom Wright of Dieterich to fill a vacancy created by the recent resignation of Ann Deters of Effingham.
The new trustee has served as the president of Wright’s Furniture in Dieterich for the past 30 years and is a member of the Cross at the Crossroads Board, the Dieterich Bank Board, the Alliance Board and the Dieterich Community Development Corp.
Wright has served on the Lake Land College Foundation Board of Directors for 12 years, including as president from 2010 to 2012; and he served on the St. Anthony Hospital Board of Directors for nine years and the Effingham County 911 Board for four years. Wright said he is honored to be appointed to the Lake Land board.

“Lake Land College has been very good to me and my family," Wright said. "I look forward to serving on the board and assisting the college in creating outstanding opportunities for students from our area."
Wright received the Lake Land Alumnus Achievement Award in 2009, the Lake Land Foundation Crystal Swan Award in 2015, and was inducted into the inaugural class of the Distinguished Alumni Society in 2007. In 2018, Wright was named as one of Lake Land’s “Top 50 Most Influential People.”
The new trustee is scheduled to take his seat at the July 15 regular board meeting. He will serve on the board until the next consolidated election in April 2021.
Wright was one of two applicants that the board considered for the vacant trustee position. The other applicant was Mike Defend of Effingham, who is president and CEO of Crossroads Bank in Effingham.
