MATTOON (JG-TC) -- Police officers have arrested a local woman on a deception charge regarding her medical treatment fundraising.

A Mattoon Police Department press release reported that Cheryl L. Moore, 37, of Mattoon was arrested at 1:43 p.m. Friday on a charge of theft by deception. The charge alleges that Moore used social media to raise money for a medical condition for which she was fraudulently purporting to be actively receiving medically treatment. She allegedly spent the money that she raised on other personal matters.

Moore was processed at the Mattoon Police Department and was then released from custody pending the filing of formal charges by the Coles County States Attorney’s Office.
