STRASBURG -- Winners have been announced for this year's Americanism Essay Contest, sponsored by the American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Sons of the American Legion.

The theme this year was, “What are my responsibilities as a U.S. citizen?” The contest was open for grades seven through 12. Each level of competition has monetary awards with the first place Department award for 11th and 12th grade being a $1200 scholarship.

The Strasburg American Legion Auxiliary Unit 289 has sponsored the Americanism Essay Contest for many years. Strasburg Unit 289 has always been very fortunate to have the cooperation and encouragement of the Stewardson-Strasburg Junior High and High School staff in supporting this essay contest.

A dinner for the essay winners was on held in March at the Strasburg Community Building.
