CHARLESTON -- Candidates for an area state representative seat and for Coles County sheriff have been invited to attend a forum scheduled for Tuesday evening.

The forum is set for 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Unique Suites Hotel, 920 W. Lincoln Ave., Charleston, and is sponsored by the Charleston and Mattoon chambers of commerce.

The candidates for the 110th District state representative seat are Democrat Shirley Bell and Republican Chris Miller. Incumbent Republican Reggie Phillips isn't seeking re-election.

The sheriff's candidates are incumbent Republican Jimmy Rankin and Democrat Greg Voudrie.

Candidates will be able to give opening and closing statements with a time for audience questions in between, according to organizers. Audience members will submit questions in writing for screening to avoid duplication.

Only candidates in attendance will be allowed to answer audience questions. Candidates can send representatives in their absences but they will only be allowed to read statements on their behalves.
