MATTOON -- Connor Co. has petitioned to rezone property along Old State Road as part of plans to move its Mattoon plumbing and heating supply center to this location.
The Mattoon Planning Commission will conduct a public hearing at 5:30 p.m. tonight (Tuesday, June 25) in City Hall to consider the petition to rezone 1421 Old State Road from C-3 service commercial to C-4 general commercial.
The property, which Connor Co. has purchased, previously housed Isaak's Family Fun Center.
Peoria based Connor Co. reported in the petition that it will use the 2.4-acre property to conduct its business and will need to use outside storage for certain PVC materials, contingent upon rezoning.
Branch manager Al Garbe said if the rezoning is approved, Connor Co. will move its Mattoon site to the building at 1421 Old State Road from its current rented location at 1308 Lake Land Boulevard later this year. Garbe said the new location will put all of the branch's operations under one roof.

"Right now, we are working out of three different buildings," Garbe said of the Lake Land Boulevard location.
The property at 1421 Old State Road is bordered on the north by a wholesale business and the east by a UPS location, both of which have general commercial zoning.
The property is bordered on the west by a service station with service commercial zoning and the south by a mobile home park with multiple family residence zoning.
A city staff report states that the existing use of 1421 Old State Road is retail, but the city's comprehensive plan has designated this property for light industrial use.
The staff gave a favorable recommendation to the petition. After the Planning Commission votes on the petition, its recommendation will go to the City Council for final approval.
