MATTOON — The City Council is scheduled Tuesday night to consider the subdivision plat for a planned HSHS Medical clinic at the southwest corner of Illinois Route 16 and Lerna Road.
The proposed HSHS plat is for 2.6-acres on the west side of Coles Centre Drive, along Route 16. This site is part of the Coles Centre property owned by Agracel, Inc. of Effingham.
Agracel is seeking the council's approval for the preliminary plat for Coles Centre's second phase, containing the general layout of the lots, streets, utilities, and drainage improvements planned there.
In addition, Agracel is seeking approval for the 2.6-acre lot in Coles Centre for the completion of a real estate transaction for HSHS. Agracel is also seeking approval of the final plat for two lots in Coles Centre for the completion of a real estate transaction for Hilton Garden Inn.
The Hilton project's developers announced plans in June for a 102-room, 4-story hotel with a restaurant, plus a 550-capacity convention center. This followed Blue Cross and Blue Shield's May announcement that it plans to build a two-story, 50,000-square-foot new Mattoon service center in Coles Centre.

City Administrator Kyle Gill said HSHS plans to start construction of a clinic in Coles Centre during the same time frame as the other two announced projects there.
"Hopefully, we will have all three under construction later this fall," Gill said.
The Hospital Sisters Health System, HSHS, is based in Springfield. This system's hospitals includes Good Shepherd in Shelbyville, St. Anthony's Memorial in Effingham, St. Mary's in Decatur, and St. John's in Springfield. HSHS officials could not be reached for comment Friday afternoon.
Tuesday's City Council meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in City Hall.
