MATTOON (JG-TC) -- Police officers arrested a local man on charges of methamphetamine possession and other offenses.
A Mattoon Police Department press release reported that Matthew S. Cook, 33, of Mattoon was arrested for an active Coles County warrant for criminal damage to property, as well as for possession of meth and resisting a police officer. The arrest occurred at 9:45 p.m. Tuesday in the 1500 block of South Second Street.
The charges allege that police spotted Cook and approached him to detain him on the warrant. The charges also allege that Cook resisted arrest and ran from the police officer, but was caught and arrested a short distance from the initial contact. Cook also allegedly was in possession of meth during his arrest. Cook was taken to the Coles County jail.
