MATTOON (JG-TC) -- Police officers have taken a Mattoon man into custody for an active Coles County arrest warrant for a home invasion charge.
A Mattoon Police Department press release reported that Alvin L. Booths, 31, was arrested at 1:02 p.m. Thursday in the 2300 block of Essex Avenue. The charge stems from a Dec. 29 incident in which Booths is alleged to have unlawfully entered the apartment of a woman he knew and battered two women there. Booths was taken to the Coles County jail.
In other matters, Corey J. Mitchell, 29, of Mattoon was arrested on a charge of possession of a firearm by a felon at 10:29 a.m. Thursday on Health Center Drive near Illinois Route 16. The charge alleges that Mitchell was located and stopped by police for an outstanding Mattoon city warrant, and was found to have been in possession of a firearm at that time. Mitchell has previous felony convictions. He was taken to the jail.
