MATTOON (JG-TC) -- The Mattoon City Council is schedule to hold its first meeting of 2018 at 6:30 p.m. tonight in City Hall, 208 N. 19th St.

During the meeting, the council will hear a presentation acknowledging the retirement of Public Works Assistant Superintendent Mike Johnson after more than 29 years of service with the city. The council is not scheduled to vote on any resolutions or other items at this meeting, but the council will hear reports from the city's various department directors.

The council is scheduled hold a closed session to discus collective negotiating matters between the city and its employees and to discus deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees, but will not take action on these items when it reconvenes in open session.
