MATTOON -- The Mattoon Planning Commission is scheduled tonight to consider a parking ordinance variance petition for an approximately 1,400-square-foot tavern to be constructed at 901 Lake Land Boulevard, at Oak Avenue.
Russell Jabs, contractor and agent for Lucky Jacks Illinois LLC, has requested a variance to reduce the number of parking spaces required at 901 Lake Land Boulevard from 22 to 16. This site is zoned for service commercial land use, which can be used for taverns, and is nearly entirely bordered by service commercial zoning, including a property to the east that already has a tavern. There is a residential property to the west.
In other matters, the commission will consider the petition of K.C. Summers for a sign ordinance variance for the construction of a 32-foot-tall Hyundai pylon road sign at the northwest corner of 19th Street and Charleston Avenue. The sign ordinance limits such signs to 25 feet tall. The GM sign that had been at this corner for many years was 36 feet tall and was recently moved across the street.
The commission is scheduled to meet at 5:30 p.m. today in City Hall, 208 N. 19th St. Recommendations made by the commission go before the Mattoon City Council for final approval.
