MATTOON -- An "Art in Literature" activity led by art instructor Jamie Willis for children ages 6-9 will be offered Friday at the Mattoon Public Library, 1600 Charleston Ave.

The activity is set for 2-3:15 p.m. in the second floor program room. Children will listen to the featured book, "Tar Beach" by Faith Ringgold, and then create art inspired by the book. Spots are limited to the first 15 to sign up for the activity.

Library Director Carl Walworth said in a press release that Willis led a multi-day program for children in August that was well received.

“She is a wonderful teacher and artist. This session is similar to the one in August in that it utilizes a piece of children’s literature to spark ideas that lead to a piece of artwork, allowing children to use their imagination in creative ways. Typically these sessions fill up quickly so interested parents should register their children right away,” Walworth said.

Registration is available online at http://mattoonlibrary.evanced.info/signup/EventDetails?EventId=9825&backTo=Calendar&startDate=2019/02/08, or by calling or stopping by the library.
