MATTOON -- Police officers arrested a Mattoon man in connection with a robbery scare early Tuesday morning at the Denny's restaurant, 224 Richmond Ave. East.

A Mattoon Police Department press release reported that William C. Bowles, 35, of Mattoon was arrested at 2:38 a.m. in the 200 block of Richmond Avenue East on a charge of disorderly conduct regarding this incident.

The charge alleges that Bowles was drunk and disorderly, and that he walked into Denny’s and spoke to employees about robbing the business. Employees observed a bulge in Bowle’s waistband and summoned police. The bulge turned out to be a bottle of alcohol. Bowles was taken to the Coles County jail.

In other matters, Allie R. Young, 25, homeless and from Charleston, was arrested at 9:32 a.m. Saturday in the 100 block of Dettro Drive on a charge of possession of a stolen motor vehicle. The charge alleges that Young stole a car from Charleston and drove it to Mattoon. Young was taken to the jail.

Separately, Anthony S. T. Hensley, 37, of Mattoon was arrested at 4:20 p.m. Sunday at Old State Village on a charge of burglary. The charge alleges that Hensley stole power tools from within a property that was under renovation. Hensley was taken to the jail.
