MATTOON — Police officers have arrested a Mattoon man on a preliminary charge of motor vehicle theft.

A Mattoon Police Department press release reported that this 19-year-old man allegedly took possession of a motor vehicle without the consent of the owner on Saturday and did not return the vehicle.

The motor vehicle reportedly had been loaned out to another person by the owner in Mattoon, but was stolen by the 19-year-old at an unknown location while it was being used in Charleston.

Officers arrested this man at 1:50 p.m. Wednesday at the police station. The Coles County Sheriff's Office will review the arrest report and determine if a charge will be filed in court.
