MATTOON (JG-TC) -- Police officers made five methamphetamine-related arrests Friday through Sunday.
A Mattoon Police Department press release reported that Jonathan J. Berry, 29, of Mattoon was arrested on charges of being a fugitive from justice and of possessing meth at 10:26 a.m. Friday in the 1300 block of Dewitt Avenue.
The charges allege that when Berry was stopped by police for a traffic violation, he was found to have a probation violation warrant for his arrest out of Bexar County, Texas. The charges also allege that while being arrested for the warrant, Berry was found to be in possession of meth. Berry was taken to the Coles County jail.
Separately, Spencer J. Adams, 44, of Mattoon was arrested on a charge of meth possession at 11:48 a.m. Friday in the 1200 block of Richmond Avenue. The charge alleges that when Adams was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped by police for a traffic violation, he was found to be in possession of meth. Adams was taken to the jail.
In another case, Amanda K. McGowan, 28, of Charleston was arrested on charges of retail theft and meth possession, and for having an active warrant for her arrest, at 1:27 p.m. Saturday in the 1900 block of Prairie Avenue. The charges allege that when police were called to County Market regarding a female identified as McGowan stealing liquor from there, she was located by police driving away from this supermarket.
McGowan allegedly had two bottles of liquor in her vehicle, which County Market alleged that she had just stolen. McGowan also had an active warrant for her arrest at that time for the offense of unlawful delivery of meth. The charges also allege McGowan was in possession of meth during the time of the stop. McGowan was taken to the jail.
Separately, Curtis T. McDowell, 35, of Mattoon was arrested on a charge of meth possession and also for having an active Coles County arrest warrant for a burglary charge at 4:13 p.m. Saturday in the 2900 block of Pine Avenue.
After being located and arrested by police for the warrant, McDowell was interviewed at the police station about the burglary charge. During that time, investigators conducted a search warrant of McDowell’s residence and allegedly located numerous pieces of drug paraphernalia, as well as meth. McDowell was taken to the jail.
In another case, Gunner L. Gottman, 22, of Mattoon was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of meth at 1:50 p.m. Sunday at the police station. The charges allege that when Gottman was being questioned by police about a report of domestic violence, he was found to be in possession of these illegal drugs. Gottman was taken to the jail.
