URBANA — A Mattoon resident faces a federal charge accusing him failing to update his sex offender registration while traveling while working for a carnival.

Dallas Eugene Clement, 57, of Westlake, La., but living in Mattoon, was arraigned on Friday and scheduled for trial starting June 10.

Clement was indicted earlier this month on a charge accusing him of failing to update his registration from Dec. 1 to March 2. Case records indicate that he's suspected of actually not maintaining his registration requirements for two years.

A news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Central Illinois federal court district said Clement was required to register as a sex offender because of a conviction in Louisiana.

According to the news release, Clement would face up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 if convicted.
