NEOGA (JG-TC) -- The Neoga school board meeting is scheduled tonight to consider authorizing the public sale of the former elementary school building.

District Superintendent Ben Johnson said the board voted on Dec. 15 to table its consideration of the public sale proposal until tonight's meeting, which will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the unit office at 790 E. Seventh St. Johnson said the board members wanted more time to mull over selling the former elementary school building, located at 641 W Sixth St. near Jennings Park.

Tonight, the board is scheduled to go into closed session to consider setting a price for the sale or lease of district property. Then, the board will return to open session to consider voting on the public sale proposal.

The district closed the elementary school building in May 2015 as part of budget cuts and subsequently moved the students from there to the middle school building, adjacent to the high school, on the east side of town. In the meantime, the district opened up the former school building for leasing.

In other matters, the board is also scheduled tonight to consider approving a school bus lease contract. Johnson said the current contract with Midwest Transit Equipment of Kankakee ends in June, so the board is considering options for its bus needs. He said the board is considering options with its current provider and with Midwest Bus Sales of Litchfield and Central States Bus Sales of Fenton, Mo.
