CHARLESTON (JG-TC) -- A former Eastern Illinois University police officer was hired March 5 to the city police department. 

According to city police officials, Stephen Szigethy worked for the University Police Department as the field training officer as well as a member of the Crisis Response Team.

Also, Ken Pollum was promoted from CPD sergeant to lieutenant on Feb. 18. He has been with the department since August 2000, according to officials. He will command one of the night shifts at the department.

Pollum is a member of the Crisis Response Team, a master firearms, taser and sniper instructor.

In addition, Brian Hissong was promoted to sergeant on Feb. 18. He has been with the department since October 2009. He will also command one of the night shifts, officials say. Hissong is a member of the Crisis Response Team, a Master taser instructor, a firearms instructor, and a field training officer.
