PARIS -- A  Paris man died Wednesday morning when a semitruck he was riding in overturned Wednesday morning southwest of city, Illinois State Police said.

The 24-year-old passenger died at the scene. The driver, Brett A. Bell, 24, of Paris was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The Edgar County Coroner's Office plans to release further information about the victim once the family has been notified.

According to an Illinois State Police news release, the 1993 Mack Truck was traveling along East Terra Haute Road at 10:33 a.m. when it left the roadway for an unknown reason and overturned on its passenger side. 

According to State Police, the driver and passenger were not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. State Police said Bell was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid and accident, improper lane usage, not having a commercial driver's license and failure to wear a seat belt.
