MATTOON -- Police officers recently made two arrests on possession of methamphetamine charges in separate cases.

A Mattoon Police Department press release reported that Patrick A. Williams, 26, of Mattoon was arrested on charges of meth possession with intent to deliver and driving with a suspended driver’s license.

The arrest occurred at 10:26 a.m. Monday in the 900 block of Moultrie Avenue when police stopped Williams after he was seen allegedly operating a vehicle with a suspended license. At the time of the traffic stop, Williams is alleged to have had possession of meth for distribution purposes. He was taken to the Coles County jail.

In other matters, Shannon M. Smith, 40, of Lovington, was arrested on a meth possession charge. The arrest occurred at 11:01 p.m. July 6 on North 19th Street near Evergreen. The charge alleges that police stopped a vehicle Smith was traveling in for a traffic violation and that she had possession of meth at the time. Smith was taken to the jail.
