MATTOON — Police recently arrested a Mattoon man after he allegedly threatened to shoot someone.

A Mattoon Police Department press release reported that this 50-year-old man was arrested on preliminary charges of criminal damage to property, assault, and obstructing a police officer.

The arrest occurred at 6:24 p.m. Friday in the 3000 block of Pine Avenue after he allegedly threatened to shoot someone there and he destroyed the victim's property. Deputy Chief Sam Gaines said this man did not have a gun, but threatened to use one.

After being arrested and taken to the police station, this man allegedly refused to cooperate with the booking process. He was then taken to the Coles County jail.

The Coles County State's Attorney's Office will review the arrest report and determine if charges will be filed against him in court.
