MATTOON -- A driver was ticketed and a passenger needed medical attention after a car went off the road and overturned Monday night on Interstate 57.

The car driven by David K. Gronski, 24, of Bloomington, Indiana, was northbound a mile south of the Mattoon U.S. Route 45 interchange when the accident occurred just after 9 p.m., according to an Illinois State Police news release.

The release said Gronski lost control for an unknown reason, causing the car to go into the median and overturn.

A passenger, Ricky McDonald, 49, of Decatur was taken to an unspecified area hospital after the accident, according to the release.

It said Gronski was cited for improper lane use. The release also said the accident is still under investigation.
