Julie Chaves of Charleston drove into a ditch in an effort to avoid a dog or coyote that ran into the road at 6:27 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of West State Street and Decker Springs Road.

A vehicle driven by Maranda Carmickle of Charleston struck a vehicle owned by Marla Markwell of Greenup at 8:39 p.m. Dec. 20 at 2250 Lincoln Ave. Carmickle was cited for failing to give information after striking an unattended vehicle and driving with suspended or revoked license.

Vehicles driven by Troy Timm of Charleston and Daniel Brown of Oakland were involved in an accident at 1:42 p.m. Jan. 3 at the intersection of Second Street and Pierce Avenue.

An unknown driver struck a vehicle owned by Shiniqua Arnette of Charleston at 10:09 a.m. Saturday at 2005 12th St.

Sierra Humphrey of Chicago rear-ended a vehicle driven by Joy Russell of Charleston with her vehicle at 12:09 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Fourth Street and Grant Avenue. Humphrey was cited for driving too fast for conditions and for having no valid driver’s license.

A vehicle driven by Lynch Korann of Charleston struck an unattended vehicle owned by Todd Campbell of Charleston at 3:45 p.m. Saturday at 410 North Fourth St.

Vehicles driven by Agnes Miller of Marshall and Richard Deppisch of Charleston were involved in an accident at 11:52 a.m. Dec. 30 at the intersection of West Lincoln Avenue and Division Street. The McDonald's metal fence was damaged in the accident. 

Coles County sheriff

The vehicle driven by Kelly J. Ramsey of Casey hit two signs and a fence at the intersection of Westfield Road and Illinois Route 130 at 11:29 a.m. Dec. 31.

Vehicles driven by Christopher Ogden and Brittany N. Allen, both of Charleston, were involved in an accident at the intersection of Illinois Route 316 and County Road 1420N at 10:55 a.m. Friday.

The vehicle driven by Brandi J. Hemrich of rural Oakland hit several small trees at 2400 E. Burtner Drive in Oakland at 7:26 a.m. Saturday.

The vehicle driven by Alexander G. Laleian of Carol Stream went off the road at the intersection of Old State Road and Country Club Road at 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

Mattoon fire

Firefighters were dispatched at 1:45 a.m. Tuesday to investigate a burning odor in the 500 block of Woodlawn Avenue. They found that the odor was being produced by a power line downed by high winds. They were on scene until 3:13 a.m. while the line was repaired by an Ameren Illinois crew.

Firefighters responded to a report of a vehicle fire at 11:24 a.m. Sunday along Western Avenue Heights. They found smoke and flames emanating from the engine compartment. They extinguished the fire.

Mattoon police

Vehicles driven by James E. Harris Jr. of Mattoon and Cedrick M. Bass of Mattoon collided at 6:14 p.m. Saturday in the 1100 block of Charleston Avenue.

Vehicles driven by Smit Patel of Chicago and Marla K. Davis of Toledo collided at 5:53 p.m. Jan. 1 at Old State Road and South Ninth Street.
