MATTOON -- The Super Jumbo Buffet Chinese restaurant at the Cross County Mall is scheduled to permanently close after Friday.
Owner Tom Xie of Mattoon said he and his family have no plans to relocate Super Jumbo Buffet, which they acquired approximately three years ago. Xie said he puts in a lot of time working at the restaurant and is looking at changing jobs. Xie and his family have maintained regular hours of 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 11 a.m.-9:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday at the restaurant.
"We really appreciate our customers coming by all these years," Xie said.

Previous owners opened Jumbo Buffet in summer of 2003 at the southeast entrance to the Cross County Mall. The restaurant moved west to an adjacent storefront and expanded as Super Jumbo Buffet in January 2008. Super Jumbo Buffet is the only restaurant currently located within the mall.
Real Estate Director Blake Pierce with Rural King, which owns the Cross County Mall, said the company plans to redevelop most of the current Super Jumbo Buffet space and the adjacent former office space to the west after the restaurant closes. Pierce said Rural King will then market this redeveloped space, next to the mall's central entrance, to potential new tenants.
Pierce said the former Jumbo Buffet space at the mall's southeast entrance is being cleared out to help house the new Scotty’s Brewhouse restaurant, which is scheduled to open Dec. 1. Contractors also have been making room for Scotty's by clearing out a storage space and work room that had been used by mall staff.
"Construction will be commencing soon on (Scotty's). It will go pretty quickly," Pierce said.
