CHARLESTON -- City police arrested a Charleston man after finding suspected methamphetamine in his sock, police report. 

Jason A. Abernathy, 44, was arrested following a traffic stop at approximately 12:15 a.m. Monday on Illinois Route 130 near Bypass Road.

Charleston Police Department officials reported that Abernathy was stopped for a minor traffic violation. During the stop, a Charleston police canine alerted on the vehicle, but no contraband was found in the vehicle. Officers then searched Abernathy's person, resulting in the seizure of .6 grams of suspected meth found in Abernathy's sock, according to police.

Abernathy was taken to the Coles County jail on a preliminary felony charge of possession of meth. The 2002 Chevrolet driven by Abernathy was seized pending a vehicle seizure hearing.
