Illinois Route 130 traffic

Traffic stalls on Illinois Route 130 just outside Charleston Tuesday morning as road conditions affected driving on the hill near the Lake Charleston entrance.

CHARLESTON — Traffic was backing up on Illinois Route 130 at Lake Charleston at approximately 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, as motorists continued to deal with icy road conditions.

The affected section of Route 130 was at Embarras River south of Charleston. The Coles County Sheriff's Office was on scene at the traffic jam.

The road reopened later in the morning, according to sheriff's deputy Nicholas Clapp. He said both lanes of the road were closed because tractor trailers were having difficulty going up both inclines because of the road conditions.

Icy road conditions have led to the cancellation of classes for Charleston, Mattoon and other area schools districts, as well as Lake Land College.
