MATTOON -- Volunteers are invited to help spruce up Vanlaningham Park at 4 p.m. Sunday as part of the first in a series of planned monthly cleanup events at Mattoon parks.

The Mattoon in Motion parks and recreation committee has organized this event to pick up any litter and downed limbs at Vanlaningham Park, smooth out landscaping mulch, and do other work as needed. Volunteers are asked to bring rakes, gloves and lawn waste bags if available.

Vanlaningham is located on the west end of Garfied Avenue west of North 29th Street, a few blocks north of DeWitt Avenue. Organizers reported that additional cleanup events will be held at 4 p.m. on the last Sunday of the month at other parks in Mattoon.
