Water main break

Water covers an area near Douglas Street in Charleston on Sunday after a water main break. The break led to a citywide boil order for Charleston until at least this morning.

CHARLESTON (JG-TC) -- A boil order is expected to be in place for the entire city of Charleston until at least Monday morning because of a water main break.

The main break occurred about 9:15 a.m. Sunday on Douglas Drive near Alan Drive, north of Lincoln Avenue, according to Charleston police Lt. John Bennett.

City work crews were at the scene but the time needed for repairs led to the boil order, Bennett said.

Charleston schools Superintendent Todd Vilardo said Sunday that no change in attendance is planned Monday. Meal services will not be affected, and bottled water will be available for students to drink.
