Embarras volunteer conservation day

CHARLESTON — The Embarras Volunteer Stewards will hold a Conservation Day at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9 to help Douglas-Hart Nature Center with their woods maintenance. Douglas-Hart is at the corner of DeWitt Avenue and Loxa Road in Mattoon.

All are welcome, and no prior experience is necessary. Sturdy footwear and gloves are recommended. Tools are provided.

Duplicate Bridge results announced

CHARLESTON — The results of the Sectional Tournament at Clubs duplicate bridge game played on Oct. 28 are:

The results of the duplicate bridge game played on Nov. 4 are:

The next game will be held on Monday, Nov. 11 at 6:45 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Charleston. All bridge players are welcome.

Autumn coin show planned

SPRINGFIELD — The Central Illinois Numismatic Association's 30th annual autumn coin show will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10 at Northfield Center I, 3210 Northfield Drive., Springfield.

The show will feature 70 dealer tables with U.S. and foreign coins, state quarters, ancient and modern coins, gold and silver bullion, and paper money. A free youth auction, for ages 6-16, will be held from 1-3 p.m..

Admission is $1. Members and children under 16 get in free. Future shows will be held March 22 and July 26, 2020. For more information contact show Chairman Steve Soltys at 217-899-9996.

Illinois Fair Tax informational meeting

MATTOON — Louis Goseland from the Illinois Alliance for Retired Americans will give an informational talk on the Illinois Fair Tax Act on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. in the Cross County Mall in Mattoon. The presentation is free and open to the public. Signs will be posted in the mall giving directions to the location of the presentation. This event is sponsored by the Charleston Huddle and the Coles Progressives.

Neoga Elementary School offers Veterans Day Breakfast

NEOGA — The Neoga Elementary school staff and students will like to honor all veterans with a free breakfast at the Elementary school located at 850 E. 7th St., on Monday, Nov. 11. Breakfast will be served at 7:45 a.m. The students of the Neoga School District will provide a Veterans Day program immediately following breakfast in the gymnasium. Mattoon High School Class of 1956 to meet

MATTOON — The Mattoon High School Class of 1956 meets for breakfast at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12 at Villa Pizza and thereafter on the second Tuesday of every month.

Guns Save Life to meet

CHARLESTON — The monthly meeting of Guns Save Life will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, in the banquet room at the Unique Suites Hotel, 920 W. Lincoln Ave.

All meetings are open to the public and are family friendly. An optional dinner buffet, prepared by the Brickhouse Restaurant, will be available at 6 p.m. No reservations are necessary.

The scheduled main speaker will be Ron Beatty who will discuss the original development of the AR15 platform.

There will be legislative updates, a 50/50 drawing, a drawing for a S&W SD9 9mm pistol, and additional drawings for attendees. Drawing tickets will also be available for additional drawings at future dates at other locations, including a S&W MP9 Shield 9mm pistol at their Dec. 12 meeting, a Ruger PC9 9mm Carbine 17+1 Takedown w/Threaded barrel at their Jan. 9 meeting, and a custom designed, built and highly engraved Ruger SAA Vaquero .357 Magnum Revolver, a one of a kind Collector's Grade Firearm from Oglesby & Oglesby Gunsmiths in Springfield.
