MATOON (JG-TC) -- A local man who was on parole for murder has been taken into custody on an arrest warrant.
A Mattoon Police Department press release reported that officers from the department, the U.S. Marshal’s Service, and Coles County probation office arrested Charles C. Drum, 46, of Mattoon at 8 a.m. Friday in the Westwood subdivision of Mattoon after searching for several for weeks for him.
Drum was wanted on a Coles County warrant of arrest. The charge alleges that he battered a woman in Mattoon.
In addition, Drum has been charged with a violation of his parole. That charge alleges that Drum was on parole from prison for murder at the time that the new offense was allegedly committed. Drum was taken to the Coles County jail.
In 2001, Drum was convicted in Mattoon resident Shane Ellison's Jan. 4, 1997, beating-and-strangulation death. He was one of three co-defendants in the case.
