MATTOON (JG-TC) — The area’s annual gathering of spirit investigators, psychics and others who deal with the paranormal is set for Sept. 7.
Tickets are now available for activities in conjunction with the third annual Central Illinois Paracon and Psychic Fair, which will feature presenters who’ve appeared on TV shows on the paranormal, a chance to participate in a paranormal investigation and more.
“This year’s Paracon will be much larger than in past years,” organizer Becky Guymon said in a news release about the event. “Guests will be speaking throughout the day on many topics.”
The event will feature speakers, presentations and items for sale at the Mattoon Moose Lodge, 1212 Broadway Ave., from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sept. 7.
There will also be the chance to join local teams of paranormal investigators for tours of and an investigation at the Ashmore Estates building, which is located east of Charleston and is said by some to be the site of paranormal activity. The tour is scheduled for 7-10 p.m. and the investigation is set for 11 p.m.-3 a.m.

Tickets to attend any or all the activities are available online at the site for the Illinois Metaphysical and Paranormal Society, the paranormal investigation team of which Guymon is the co-founder. The website is www.teamimps.com and ticket purchases and other information are at the “2013 Central IL Paracon” link.
Tickets for the presentations at the Moose Lodge are $5 each, while the cost of the Ashmore Estates tour is $15 and the overnight investigation is $45.
The list of presenters for the event are listed on the website and the news release stated the day’s offerings will also include psychic readings and sales of paranormal investigation items, natural health products, artwork and more.
Guymon has been conducting paranormal investigations for about two years and said the goal of the event and groups such as hers is to inform people about the possibilities of the paranormal.
“Many people in the community have the wrong impression of paranormal investigators and those involved in the metaphysical fields,” she said in the news release. “It is our goal to build a bridge and fill the gap through teaching and community involvement.”
